REGIONAL FOOD

Tottori's regional food and beverages

SAKAIMINATO

SAKAIMINATO PORT

This port annually has the biggest catch of crab in the winter, and "maguro" tuna in the summer. Although the region is most famous for tuna and crab, they also catch snow crab, red snow crab, horse mackerel, chub mackerel, sardines, cuttlefish and many other varieties of seafood. For the last five years, Sakaiminato Port has topped all other ports in Japan with the biggest annual catches on record.

We use seasonal ingredients, seafood and produce.
If you decide to stay at Sennentei, you may be able to try these special seasonal delicacies and Japanese sakes and alcohol.

Snow Crab

Caught off the shores of the Sannin Region, the snow crab is a well-known winter delicacy, especially in the Sea of Japan coastal regions. To ensure the high quality of crabs, the crabs are marked with colored tags to differentiate the rank, age and price. We recommend trying many different preparations of snow crab including boiled, raw, grilled, and in the quintessential Japanese winter meal, kani-nabe (crab hot pot).
Season : Beginning of November~End of March

Tuna

Tottori's port, Sakai-minato catches the most tuna in all of Japan, so if you are visiting Tottori, eating the fresh "maguro" tuna is a must. Tuna caught in the Sakai-minato area is said to have a velvety, rich texture and is excellent raw in sashimi or sushi and also steamed or fried.
